2nd September

I've been bad and not updated this much recently... sorry to anyone who has actually bothered to check it expecting new rubbish to entertain you.    It's all getting busy now.

It's been hot this week.   Hiding inside is the preferred method of staying cool, although I'm discovering the benefits of having the ocean just down the road - floating around in the water is a fantastic way of keeping the temperature down.     It's also Labor Day weekend, whatever that means.   Mostly it seems to give the whole of San Diego an excuse to come along to La Jolla and occupy all the available space.

The story of the week is that I seem to have acquired a car.   This is rather a surprise because I've been avoiding, resisting and ignoring driving for years.    I'm still cycling almost everywhere I go, but it does make a difference round here to have a bit of extra range occasionally.   Just at the moment though, the massed hoardes at the beach have stolen all the parking near where I live, so the car is banished to the next road.     We are not amused.

I've also got around to booking flights back to England to visit for the third week in September.    I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone then...

my cute little car.
End of September

I went back to England for a few days, mostly for a reunion with my year at Churchill - it's ten years since we first arrived as first-year undergraduates!    Some of the pictures from that event are here.     I also went back to Altrincham for a couple of days and generally chatted to people and had coffee and lunch and such things for a week.      And on the last morning in Cambridge, I was absolutely drenched in a sudden squall while out running by the Cam.   A proper British experience all round then.
Most evenings were spent in pubs.   Here is Shoop in a pub.
Nana and I after having lunch with Dad and Kath in Altrincham.
I went out rowing on the Cam with Maurice in Churchill's pink double.
On the Hepworth after the reunion with some of the other 1997-ers.
